The loop
You open Instagram to answer a message. A Reel catches your eye. One swipe later, the reason you picked up the phone is gone.
People often call this an addiction to scrolling. That word can describe how stuck the loop feels, but a difficult habit is not automatically a clinical diagnosis. For someone with ADHD, managing attention and resisting an immediate reward can be especially hard. The CDC's guide to ADHD in adults describes those challenges; it does not mean everyone who scrolls a lot has ADHD.
The useful question for this app is smaller: can we make the next swipe less automatic while leaving the useful parts of these apps alone?
What Tempt does
Tempt watches for screen elements associated with an Instagram Reel or YouTube Short. When its rules recognize a player, it places a plain black cover over that screen.
Tap the cover to go Home, or press Android Back to leave the video. You can still use messages, regular posts, search, and normal YouTube videos. A Start / Stop switch lets you pause the blocker whenever you choose.
The app uses Android Accessibility with your permission. Detection rules run on the phone; there is no AI classifier, account, or backend in this version. Tempt saves the blocker and Reduce motion settings locally. It does not save screen text, screenshots, messages, or browsing history.
An honest limit
The cover appears after Tempt detects the player. The video may already have loaded, and its audio may continue. App updates or different layouts can also cause a missed or mistaken detection.
A moment to choose
Tempt adds a pause at the point where scrolling usually takes over. That pause gives you a chance to return to what you meant to do.
That may be useful if short videos regularly pull your attention away, including if you live with ADHD. It is a practical screen boundary, not an ADHD treatment or a cure for compulsive use. NIMH's adult ADHD guide explains that ADHD involves a persistent pattern affecting daily life and that help is available.

Android 7.0 or newer · debug APK
Download the current Android build, install it, and open Tempt. The setup screen will guide you to enable its Accessibility service. Return to the app and check that the blocker is running.
This is a debug build installed directly from an APK. Android may ask you to allow installation from your browser or file manager. You can stop blocking inside Tempt at any time; Accessibility permission can be turned off in Android settings.
